Barcelona legends defeat Real Madrid legends in a Spanish clásico in El Salvador.
On Saturday, Barcelona legends defeated Real Madrid legends 2-0 in a Spanish clásico held in El Salvador. The match, which took place at the Jorge 'Mágico' González National Stadium, brought together former players from both teams in a show that thrilled thousands of Salvadoran fans.
The so-called legends' match was marked by a double from Javier Saviola, a minute of silence in honor of Salvadoran footballer Jaime 'Chelona' Rodríguez, who passed away last September, and the participation of 'Mágico' González, the country's main football star.
The first half was a true showcase for 'Mágico' González, who displayed his skills, subtly evading the marking of Real Madrid's Pepe, providing passes, and seeking the ball. Fans at the González stadium applauded every time the Salvadoran idol touched the ball and gave him a standing ovation when he left the pitch after seven minutes of play.
Javier Saviola opened the scoring in the 19th minute. After a brief hydration break, the legends of both teams returned to the field to delight their Salvadoran followers—children, youth, and adults—who were thrilled by every play.
At the end of the first half, the fans cheered the former players in unison, chanting 'Barca' and 'Madrid.' Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas was also applauded as he left the field in the 47th minute.
The match's intensity decreased in the second half, but in the 72nd minute, Saviola reappeared to score the definitive 2-0 goal.
